I just found out that my husband's 2nd great grandfather, Benjamin Hewitt, was arrested for passing counterfeit silver dollars in March 1884 in Sandy Hill New York.  However,  before his local trial was completed, the US Marshall under warrant took him to Troy NY where he was later indicted at the Utica NY court for counterfeiting on March 18, 1884.   Does anyone know if and how Federal court record copies can be requested?

A newspaper search on fultonhistory.com turned up several articles of the arrest, trial and partial disposition of Benjamin Hewitt.
