The San Diego Genealogical Society collection of 3,000+ titles in over 10,000 volumes as well as other resource materials are housed at the San Diego Central Library downtown. In addition to books, the SDGS collection holds more than 1,000 periodical titles. There are significant holdings of many major genealogical periodicals such as The New England Historical and Genealogical Register in bound volumes from 1923 to the present. The Society collection outgrew Spanish Village in Balboa Park and leased apartment and houses until it moved into its library location in El Cajon in 1994 and on Ronson Road in 2009. It closed in 2013 when the entire SDGS collection was moved to the 9th floor of the San Diego Central Library downtown.
Docents of the Society along with the library staff on the 9th floor and volunteers of the library, assist visitors using the genealogy collection. Visit the San Diego Central Library to take advantage of the substantial resources to further your genealogical discovery.
