Topic: Lost in the Text? Strategies for Decrypting Genealogical Records in German
Speaker: Charlotte Champenois
Learn strategies professionals use to decipher German-language records, and start untangling records written in the old German script.
Note: Part of the discussion will be on deciphering abbreviations. Charlotte has agreed to a request that members of our GIG can send in abbreviations that they have found and may have had difficulty determining the meaning. If you have an example, please send a link to the record that contains the abbreviation. We need to get these to Charlotte in a timely manner. Please send the link to gig.sdgs@gmail.com.
I've also asked Charlotte to take a few moments and tell us about Decipherlink. This is an app that she and two others have developed to help users learn to read the Old German handwriting.
