Genealogy Lecture Series

Topic: How DNA Assists in Finding your Ancestors

Speakers: Colin Whitney

This talk will start with a discussion of how DNA technology works, the types of tests available, and the major websites which offer databases containing your DNA relatives. It will then focus on AncestryDNA which has the largest DNA database and provides numerous tools for organizing your matches. One of them, Thrulines, goes one step further and searches the family trees of its members, looking for ancestors which you and your DNA match share. The talk will conclude with a discussion of your ethnicity results derived from DNA.
